Weekly Message from the Pastor - Dec. 7, 2018

December 7, 2018

Dear Friends,

What do preparations look like for you as we approach Christmas?   Perhaps, your preparations include decorating; sending Christmas cards; baking treats; and buying gifts. Maybe your preparations include caroling, visiting the home bound, donating winter coats, or giving to a food pantry. These are ways that many people find helpful to become engaged in this season of light, joy, hope and peace.

Yet, in this Sunday’s scripture, we hear of a different kind of preparation; that from a voice that calls us to, “Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” Are we being called to repair roads by straightening them? Or insuring that potholes are filled? Or does this call have to do with our relationship with Jesus? What preparations are we being called to make in order to allow Jesus into our hearts?

I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday. Please pray for those around you for whom this Christmas may not be merry. Perhaps it is the first Christmas without a loved one, or someone just got the news that they are being laid off, or have received a frightening diagnosis. Let them know that there is a group of people who have struggled with challenges in their own lives; and who are willing to walk with them in their journey, praying for them, and being with them.

Yours in Christ,

Linda

PS – As we think about gifts in this season of giving, consider giving, to Buckhall UMC, a gift of a year-end donation. Buckhall UMC is the center of this part of the Manassas community. Your giving helps us reach out to our neighbors, sharing the good news of Christ’s love; helps us to offer ways for children, youth, and adults to deepen their walk with God; and provides opportunities for people to use their gifts in helping others in our community and beyond.   Thank you for continued prayers for the ministry and mission of Buckhall UMC in this community and the generosity of your giving.
